Water Treatment Questions

Q. What is a soft water?
A. Utah has some of the best tasting water in the nation - but it's hard water. That means full of minerals, like calcium and magnesium. You can't see the minerals in a glass of drinking water, but you can see them in the white residue left behind when water evaporates. You'll see and feel the hard water mineral deposits on your dishes, shower glass, on your kitchen and bathroom faucets and fixtures and even on your laundry, skin and hair. A quality water softener "mechanically" removes hard water mineral deposits. This means spot free dishes, shower glass, faucets, fixtures as well as whiter whites, brighter brights, softer skin and more manageable hair!

Q. How do water softeners work?
A. Water softener's are comprised of four basic parts:
1) Mineral Tank - is partially filled with resin beads.
2) Valve - is attached to the tank and is plumbed into the main water in your house.
3) Brine tank - sits next to the mineral tank and is filled with salt water.
4) Resin beads - as water runs thru the mineral tank, resin beads attact and cling to the minerals in the water and allow the now - mineral free water (soft water) to pass thru. After a few days the resin beads become saturated with mineral deposits and need to be recharged. During the night, the valve draws brine (salt) from the brine tank and flushes the resin beads with brine. This removes the mineral deposits from the resin beads and sends it down the drain. The valve flushes out any remaining brine from the mineral tank with fresh water and the system is ready to go again.
